From June 2026 to July 2026:

• Nonfarm payroll employment decreased by 23K to 158.86 million.
  • Private sector payroll employment increased by 30K to 135.59 million.
  • Government payroll employment decreased by 53K to 23.27 million.
• The headline unemployment rate (U-3) decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 4.1 percent.
  • The broadest measure of unemployment (U-6, which adds underemployment to unemployment) remained unchanged at 7.9 percent.
• The labor force participation rate (LFPR) decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 61.4 percent.

From June 2026 to July 2026:

• The best performing sectors were private education and health services (+25K) and construction (+22K).
• The worst performing sectors were state and local government (-50K) and leisure and hospitality (-40K).

From July 2025 to July 2026:

• The best performing sectors were private education and health services (+550K) and professional and business services (+115K).
• The worst performing sectors were federal government (-252K) and financial activities (-114K).

From July 2025 to July 2026:

• For all employees on private nonfarm payrolls:
  • Average nominal weekly earnings increased by 3.46 percent.
  • Average nominal hourly earnings increased by 3.15 percent.
• For production and nonsupervisory employees on private nonfarm payrolls:
  • Average nominal weekly earnings increased by 3.52 percent.
  • Average nominal hourly earnings increased by 3.22 percent.

Job Openings: The total number of nonfarm job openings decreased by 178K to 7.36 million, and the rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 4.4 percent.

• The best performing sectors were trade, transportation, and utilities (+71K) and financial activities (+58K).
• The worst performing sectors were private education and health services (-133K) and leisure and hospitality (-86K).

Hires: The total number of nonfarm hires increased by 96K to 5.35 million, and the rate increased by 0.1 percentage points to 3.4 percent.

• The best performing sectors were private education and health services (+68K) and construction (+41K).
• The worst performing sectors were leisure and hospitality (-87K) and state and local government (-15K).

Separations: The total number of nonfarm separations increased by 91K to 5.35 million, and the rate increased by 0.1 percentage points to 3.4 percent.

• Quits increased by 79K to 3.23 million, and the rate remained unchanged at 2 percent.
• Layoffs and discharges increased by 5K to 1.77 million, and the rate remained unchanged at 1.1 percent.
